The diplomatic body at Peking has instructed the Shanghai authorities to deport "Little Hsu." He will probably be sent to Japan. The situation at Shanghai and in the •vicinity is quiet. Heavy fighting continues on the Shan-lai-kwan front. An official message states that Chang Tso-lin's forces have been driven, out beyond the Great "Wall. A Mukden official telegram says that Chang Tso-lin's troops occupied Shatn-hai-lcwan yesterday. The merchant volunteers of Canton •were defeated by the soldiers and fled. The defeat is largely due to conflagrations which swept thousands of buildings. The number of casualties is unknown. The soldiers slashed and stabbed the excited civilians. The people attempted to enter Sham-sen with their valuables, hut OTlly properly authorised people were permitted to use it.— (Beuter.l
