THE WAIKATO SEAT.

TWO REFORM CANDIDATES. (By Te'.piraph.— Own Correspondent.) CAMBRIDGE, this day. Mr. A. M. Samuel, of Tirau, interviewed regarding his political intentions, stated that he is now determined to contest the Waikato seat. He had many requests to contest the seat, but heard nothing regarding the formation of a Reform League in the Waikato or a proposal to hold a conference at To Awamntu to select a Reform candidate for the constituency until a couple of day* before the conference was held, owing to his being away in Wellington. He sent his name in, with a request that if the conveners would adjourn the conference for a few days he would be willing to abide by any decision of the conference. No hoed was given to his request, and, considering his previous promise to contest the seat, he was fully determined to go to the poll. Mr. Samuel further stated that what he took strong exception to was the statement appearing in the Press to the effect that every effort was made to get prospective candidates in the Reform interest to submit' their names to the conference, and llr. Samuel was definitely approached on the subject, but declined to put his name- forward. This, Mr. Samuel says, was absolutely incorrect. He was never approached on the subject, and was totaiiy ignored, therefore he considered he was in no wjiy bound by Uμ jjfiriwi of the conference.
