EARTH TREMOR ON RAND.
SEVEREST TO DATE. (Received 10.S0 a.m.) CAPETOWN, October 17. An earth tremor at Johannesburg is probably the severest ever experienced on the Rand. It caused many falls of rock in gold mines, 'but no casualties. The seismograph at the Union, Observatory proved too delicate to record the shock, and was put out of action. — (A. and X.Z. Cable.)
