MINE BATTERY FIRE.
MANY WORKERS IDLE. I A BAND MISHAP. (Received 10.30 a.m.) CAPETOWN, October 17. A disastrous fire destroyed the overhead gear in the crushing house at the Luid Paard Vlei Estate gold mine, near Krugersdorp. The damage is £30,000. It is feared that the mine will be unworkable for some months, causing 150 whites and loifO natives to become idle. — (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
