POLICEMAN KILLS ESCAPEE.
GAOLBREAKERS LAST RUN. THIRD ESCAPE FATAL. SOUTH AUSTRAXIAK TRAGEDY. (By Cable.—Press Association.-^Copyrlght.) (Received 1 p.m.) ADELAIDE, this day. The noted gaolbreaker William Digby, who twice last week escaped from custody at Port Lincoln, made another attempt last night. A policeman was taking him to the yard when he dashed off. The policeman followed, firing his revolver. One of the shots lodged in Digby's stomach, and he died shortly after. —(A. and N.Z. Cable.) Port Lincoln is a pleasant little town near the west entrance of Spencer's Gulf, and has about 1500 people. It has a remarkably fine harbour (travellers say as fine as Rio). It is famous for its enormous oysters, the shells of which are as large as dinner plates. It is exceedingly busy in the wheat season. It is that the gaol would present many difficulties to anyone with a good pocketknife.
