WHANGAREI GUN CLUB.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI. Friday. Under the auspices o£ the Wh.inga.rel Gun Club, a big shoot, including a £50 live bird handicap, was held at Whangarei to-day. With this big event went a cup donated by Mr. L. P. Hughes, o£ Auckland (ex New Zealand champion), tor the best performer with the first barrel only. The £50 Handicap, of 12 birds each, was divided into £35 for first, £10 for second, and £5 for third. F. Lane, of Rawene, handicap 22yds, got the possible of 12, as also did D. P. North, of Wlianguroi. handicap 21ydB. These two therefore divide the first prize of £35. For secoud honours five competitors tied with a score of 11, as follows:—lA. Dobson, 32yds (Auckland), 11; P. Danks, 23yds (Dargaville), 11; Coxhead, 22yds (Rawene), 11; L. Wobl>, 27yds (Whangarei), 11; .7. Williamson, 28yds (Auckland), 11. The third prizo money was shared by three competitors, with ten birds each. Falconer, 22yds (Kuitara), 10; L. P. Hughes, 32yds (Auckland), 10; Vince May, 22yds (Ohaeawal), 10. The points for the Hughes Cup for best first barrel performance, was:—D. p. North (Whangarei), 10 barrels, secured the cup. Others In close proximity were :— Vincc May (Ohaeawai), 9; G. Fleming (Awanui), 9; F. Lane (Uawene). 8; Falconer (Kaitara), 8; W. Webb (Whangarei), 7; W. J. Coxhead (Rawene), 6. A SIX-BIRD SWEEPSTAKE. A sweepstake (six birds) was decided, twenty-eight competitors taking part. L. P. Hughes, 19yds (possible) was first, and D. P. North, 15yds (five) (WUangarei), second. The shooting outside the placed men was not up to the usual standard, owing to a tricky cross wind. Hughes brought down his first four birds with the first barrel and the others frith his second barrel.
