HANGED IN A SHED.
A CRIMEAN VETERAN. WORRIED WITH PAINS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. A veteran of the Crimean War, Mr. William Choate, 01 years ot" age. wa* found hanging in a shed at tho rear of his house. The late Mr. Choate was born in West Ratting. Cambridgeshire. He served in the Crimea as a gunner with the Third Battalion of the Koyai Artillery, and was wounded in the shoulder at the battle of Inkerman. He emigrated to New Zealand, and arrived here in the ship Canterbury in 18(53. He was a carpenter by trade, but retired some years ago. At the inquest Mr. Choate's son said his father had never had a day's illness in h : .s life, and until recently had never complained. A few days ago he said he was worried and waa suffering from pains in the back. A verdict was returned of suicide by hanging while deceased was in au unsound state of mind.
