i « Messrs. K. N. White (Wellington), md.G. Cooper (Dunedin), are staying efc the Central Hotel. Grand' Hotel guests include Mt. and Mrs. Hamflton (Christchurah), Mr. and Mrs. Mathiaa (Timaru), Messrs. C. Mißbourne (I/ondon), D. H. Todd and G. R. Wright (Wellington). The diploma of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem in connection with the honour conferred on Bishop Averill in lii 3 appointment aa chaplain of that Order, was presented to liis Lordahip at last evening's session of the Diocesan Synod. In making the presentation, Mr. C. J. Tunka, president of the Auckland branch, of the Order, referred to the fact that it had its origin in the eleventh century. There were only 20 chaplains of the Order throughout the whole world, so that it was a great tribute to Dr. Averill that he ha& been appointed to an office which made him the senior member of the Order in New Zealand.
