BUSINESS CONTINUES QUIET. yALUBS HOLD WELL. . Fewer transactions were recorded on 'Change this week, an indication that either there is less money available for investment, or that prices for, stocks have reached a level at which buyers have no desire to operate. The fact that sellers «re not shading prices in order to effect ■ales wonld seem to indicate that high figures are checking business. War Loans «nd debentures are not having many sales Just now. The 5i per cent Soldiers' Loan, however, had transactions at £101 15/ for bonds, and £101 10/- for inscribed stock. The 4J per cent War Loan, free of income tax, sold at £97 12/G for 103S bonds, and £97 10/- for inscribed stock. Buyers offered £98 7/6 for the 51 per cent Loan. 1927-41, but afterward dropped their offer 2/6.- P. and O. Deferred Stock are again offered at £301, with buyers at £290. Farmers' Union Trading bonds were offered during the week at £90, and Bycroft Ltd., as well as Milne and Choyce debentures, at par. In banking stocks New Zealands are a little easier as far as buying offers are concerned. Sales too!: place during the ■week at 59/6 and 59/3. Commercial Bank preference issue sold at £6 8/-, but Bank of New South Wales are offered at a slight reduction, the price being £41 12/0, but no .buyer quoted. National Banks could be sot at £0 13/6, but buyers stopped at £6 11/6. Union Banks were offered yesterday afternoon at £14 18/-, but the buying rate Is now 2/- under that figure. Insurance shares had a little business, Nationals selling at 73/- and South British at 43/-, after which a seller quoted 3d under that rate. Quite a number of New Zealand Insurance changed hands at 30/-. Kauri Timber Company shares had sales and are still wanted at 30/0, and Leyland O'Brien could still be placed at 44/-. Nationals are also in request at 23/-. A transaction took place in Grey and ilenzle, Ltd. shares at 19/-, but after that buyers dropped out, and now there are only sellers at par quoting. Huddart Parker Steam shares changed hands at 43/6, .while 17/- and S/- are offered for the respective issues of Northern Steam. A number of sales were made since last report in Taupiri Coul at IS/- which iigure is still offered, Waipa Collieries are also asked for at 19/6, but sellers quote 20/3. Westport Coal were inquired for yesterday afternoon at 36/9, but sellers asked 38/-. Several lines 'of New Zealand Milk Products were transferred at 27/6 >ew Zealand Refrigerating contributing issue, were placed at 11/5, and Farmers' Auctioneering ordinary shares eased to sellers at 01/-, but latterly no buyer quoted. Kempthorne, Prosser Dms lield the advance previously noted, lieins still wanted at 71/-, but sellers nskrd 74/-. hharlands Drug are wanted at 21/0. New Zealand Breweries are inquired for at -!i/B. Shares in woollen companies were not inquired for this week Mining shares are still dull of sale, aioanataiari shares failed to maintain the recent small advance. New Wuiotahis sold at SJd, and Zeehan Consolidateds at 7 / 6 '.u With further sellers of the latter line at the same figure. Walhi Grand Junctions are now offered at 21- while the buying quotations for Waihi shares is 27/9.
