HANGED IN A SHED
A CRIMEAN VETERAN. WORRIED WITH PAINS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. A veteran of the Crimean War, Mr. William Choate, 01 years of age. wa* found hanging in a shed at the rear of j hie house. ! The late Mr. Lhoate was born in West Ratting. Cambrcdgesliire. He I served in the Crimea as a gunner with the Third Battalion of the Koyai Artillery, and was wounded in the shoulder at the battle of Inkcrman. He em:grated to Xew Zealand, and arrived here in the ship Canterbury in 180-3. He was a carpenter by trade, but retired some j-cars ago. At the inquest Mr. Choate's son said his father had never had a day's illness in h:s life, and until recently had never complained. A few days ago he said he was worried and was suffering from pains in the back. A verdict was returned of suicide by hanging while deceased was in au unsound state of mind.
