DUNEDIN'S WATERWAY.
AND OVERSEAS STEAMERS. ' COMPLAINT BY MERCHANTS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Friday. Dunedin merchants and shippers are indignant owing to the overseas steamer Orari drawing too much water on arrival to permit her coming up to Dunedin to discharge general cargo from Liverpool. The position was discussed by the Otago Importers and Shippers' Association, and it was decided to forward a letter of protest to the local agents. It is understood the reason the Orari could not come up to Dunedin is because she had been loaded up at Northern ports to such an extent that she is now drawing 24ft 6in of water. The Shippers' Association do§s not lay the blame on the local agents, but desires them to support the principle of delivery of all cargoes at the Dunedin wharves. It is asscrted'hy the executive that whoever is responsible for the movements of overseas steamers gives but scant consideration to the interests of tue Dunedin importers. Consequent upon the discharge of the Orari's goods at Port Chalmers, they will suffer loss in addition to that already caused through delay. ■'
