HOSPITAL EQUIPMENT

• A VALUABLE MACHINE. % Something out of the usual routine of Hospital Board members' work took place this week at the public hospital, wheii the members, at the invitation of of the B.ALA, and the Clinical Society, met about 60 or u'O medical practitioners of both sexes in the4i_-hoolroom connected with the chil'lioJr's wards in tho Princess Mary's Hospital to witness a demonstration of projection upparatus, the epidiaseojjej which has recently been installed by fine Clinical Society. Illustrations were:shown from the pages of medical booK, and were reproduced with wonderful accuracy. A miniature page from t lie;*lWorld's News" was also shown to demonstrate the clearness with which thojanachine yvorked. Specimens from the hospital laboratory phown by Dr. Gilmour were almost un-Snny in their reality, and it could easily bo seen how useful the apparatus wa_r for demonstration purposes. The radii>b;rams shown and explained by Dr. NeiSl iMcDougall were wonderfully "clear and;} distinct. Members of the Board, through the aid of the machine, were into the mysteries of such complicated complaints as "madura foo£" ringworm of tho feet, and other diseases yvith long anpronounceable names Bin-i as hydronephrosis in the ectopic kidney, and while they did not *-J -.part, in the discussion, they whisper__ to one another, and were assured by the medical superintendent (Dr. Maguire) that it would be a safe thing never to wear socks and never to wash! Dr. Tewsley, who presided, extended a wi_m welcome to the members of the Board, who had in many practical ways shown their interest in the Clinical Society's work, and their presence that evening showed that they were deeply interested in the practical work which the society was doing. Dr. Parkes was sure from what he had seen in the leading London hospitals that the purchase of the epidiascope would prove of the utmost benefit to the memberß of the Clinical Society. The Board members stayed right through the yvhole of the meetin", which lasted from 8.30 till 10.30 p.m., and at the close Mr. Syd. J. Harbutt, in the absence of Mr. W. Wallace, who was out of town, thanked the B.M.A. and tlie Clinical Society for giving the members the privilege of witnessing the demonstration of what was undoubtedly a wonderful machine. When the new buildings in course of erection were completed, no doubt the epidiascope would be housed in more permanent quarters, and in the new laboratory Dr. Gilmour would have more room to have his specimens more adequately classified. The Board would do all it could to help the Clinicnl Society in any reasonable way. and they had been much impressed by the keen interest taken in the demon. strations by the members.
