EFFECTS OF DROUGHT.

DAIRY COWS VERY CHEAP. ' NO DEMAND FOR HORSES. (By Telegraph. —Special to "Star.")

BUNEDIN, this day. There is at present a particularly good demand for grazing properties in Otago, and in a number of districts sales have been effected. For mixed farms and for dairy farms inquiry is very limited indeed. Dairy cows are gelling possibly cheaper than has ever been the case with them, ; for though the. nrice of butterfat is good, prospects" of feed are not. Primary products are showing a decided preference for sheep over cows, and apart from relative values for killing purposes. The advance in wool, as recorded at -this week's London sales is further justification for this preference. The effect of the dry weather on farm work is "evidenced by an over-supply of heavy draught horses, which are usually in good demand in tbe spring. Because of a scarcity of feed in North Otago, Oamaru has been seeking to place horses here', but farmers have at, present no work for ! them to do, it being, for instance, unsuitable weather for putting in turnips.
