THE WEATHER.
LAST ICIGHGT'S DOWKPOtTR. After a week of fine' bright weather, the sky became dull and overcast yesterday morning and light showers fell at intervals, f in the afternoon, the showers became heavier and more frequent, and at 7 o'clock a steady downpour set in which continued for several hours. After midnight the conditions again improved and early this morning was generally fine, though threatening. The rain yesterday interfered with all cargo work on the waterfront, with the result that the departures of several steamers were postponed until to-day. The total rainfall for the twentyfour hours ended 9 a.m. to-day, as regis.----j tered by the Government Weather Observer (Capt. A. McLeay), amountpd to 1.19 inches, a figure which brings the month's fall to. 3.71 irsches. GOOD RAIN IN THE NORTH. BENEFICIAL TO FARMERS. WHANGAREI, this day. After a dry spell steady sustained rain started yesterday, afternoon, and continued throughout' the night", being general over North Auckland. In view of early spring growth following the advent of the warmer weather,, this rain will prove of great value to the farming community generally.
