MANY MILLIONS AFFECTED. A DANGEROUS SITUATION. (Received 1.30 pjn.) DELHI, September 14. The strained, relations between the Hindus and the Mohammedans are a serious menace to the present-day peace of India. Within the. past few weeks serious riots arising"out of religious troubles have occurred in Delhi, Nagpur, Hyderabad, Poona and Kohat. Lucknow is now in the danger zone following on rumours that a Brahmin boy has been forcibly converted to Islam. .'' . I Rioting occurred on Friday night and i still continues. Troops.have been called out in all the. affected areas. Four rioters have been killed and many injured.—fA. and N.Z. Cable.) KOHAT IN ASHES. MANY PEOPLE KHXED. . DELHI, September 14. Inter-communal riots 'in Kokat resulted in the military occupation of the city and the evacuation of the entire Hindu population under escort. Neighbouring tribes have been advised by-the British official in charge of the district , to remain quiet, but local ruffians set fire to and looted the bazaar. Panic prevailed during the evacuation, the Hindus wildly firing ' They-actually grounded three their awn escort, pne fatally. Every - official assistance was afforded the homeless Hindus during their passage across the 'frontier. > So far as is yet known, 20 Hindus have been killed. Kohat has been largely reduced to - ashes. Taking advantage of the position, ' neighbouring tribesmen, attracted by the prospects of loot, entered and set fire to the town. Troops are assisting the civil authorities. They have repeatedly fired upon the rioters arid incendiaries. .The rapid spread of the (lames negatived all efforts to check the fire. —"Sun."
