OTAHUHU BOROUGH COUNCIL.

i At the last meeting of Otahuhu Borough ' Council the Mayor (Mr. H. B. Todd) presided and the following were present:— Messrs. T. Clements, C. Shepherd. J. W. Wbvte, H. J. Hall, T. Whiteley, J. Wilaon, J. Brady, and W. Nicholls. Brick Area.-—Owing to the number of building permits being issued in the vicinity of Station Road, the council resolved to make Station Road a brick area for the erection of business premises. Subdivision.—Messrs. A. S. Peterson. Ltd., wrote re their offer of a. strip of land to widen Haws Street, adjoining block of land in Walmsley Road, which they contenmplate -subdividing. Cr. Clements wag deputed to interview the company re metalling the full width of the road. Bequest for Free Water.—A deputation from the district school committee waited on the council re the request of free water for the school or a substantial reduction in the present charge. At present the charge is 1/ per 1000 gallons, which it Is estimated j costs the council 10d per 1000 gallons to i provide. It was resolved to defer r.onsiI deration and report to the committee. 1 Loan Money.—The Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs, in reply to the Council* request for a loan of £800 to cover damage* incurred by storm water, stated that the matter was receiving consideration. Drainage Contract. —The borough .engineer (Mr. A. G. Walker) recommended that a third progress payment of £1857 19/4 be . paid to the drainage contractors for work i executed to 31et August. The engineer I reported that sewers have been completed in Station Road, Clevedon Road, Walmsley Road, Seddon Terrace, and Short's Estate. Work is now in band in Huia Road, and the excavation work for the septic tank has been completed. Quarry Plant. — In view of the large i demand for metal chips, the engineer ' recommended the installation of a chip machine, complete with hopper, to cost £220. Endorsed by council. Dechlorination Filters.—The council approved of the engineer's recommendation to iiißtal three dechlorination filters, capable of a maximum of 8000 gallons each per hour, at a cost of £2328, but deferred acceptance for one month. Finance. —The Legal and Finance Committee reported the following balances to date: District fund account, dr. £3018 i 7/11; park account, credit £611 14/4; cemetery account, credit £320 7/4; domain account, credit £48 17/10; waterworks extension loan account, credit £94 2/3; quarry and plant loan account, credit £425 10/1; park loan account, credit £475 14/11; drainage loan account current account, credit £897 18/1: fixed deposit account, credit £3496 5/: water and street! loan account, credit £2707 9/3; Avenne Road widening loan account, credit £17 7/5. __^^___^__
