Baker, formerly of Auckland,, has taken up his duties as man- ' ager of the Waihi branch of the Bank of New Zealand. I Messrs'. M. Carpenter (Taihape), Jj. Sweeney (Wellington) and S. Smith and G. Muir (Te Puke) arc visitors at the Central Hotel. , Guests at the Star Hotel include Messrs. J. Pethell, of Wanganuij L. Grave and F. Cummer, of Gisborne; and E. Spintz, of Christchurch. Mr. J. W. Hayden, Mayor of Taka-1 puna, was a passenger for Wellington by last night's train. He will return to Auckland at the end of the. week. Mr. Geo. Albertson, resident engineer at Waiotira for the Public Works (Department, has been transferred to ; Gisborne and will be succeeded by Mr. I Packwood. I Mr. H. S. Hough has arrived in Auckland to take up a position as sub manI ager of the local branch of the Bank of New Zealand. Mr. A. E.
