Of more than average interest to educationists in Auckland is the forthcoming -visit of Professor John Adams, of the London University, who arrive* in Auckland by the Makura on Monday, | and will stay here until Friday. During his brief visit the Professor will give a series of lectures, his itinerary being set out below. Professor Adams is one of the most conspicuous figures in the educational world of to-day. He was for many years principal of one of the foremost of London's training colleges, but more recently has been visiting and studying the universities of America. For some j time Professor Adams was examiner in, education for the University of New; Zealand. He has been a great writer on the subject of education, his "New Teaching" and "The Evolution of the Theory of Education" being amongst the more notable of his works. As Professor of Education in London, Professor Adams has long been regarded as one of the leading authorities in England. His knowledge will be considerably broadened by his experiences in America. "He is a man of sound judgment, and , one could not but be impressed with his . pood balance yet general progressive thought," said a well-known Auckland, educationist regarding Professor Adams. "When I met him in London ten years ago he was very interested in the problem of sole-charge schools, of which we have so many here. Professor Adams then held the opinion that if only the right man was put in charge the children in the schools referred to had a better chance than had those who worked up from class to class and from teacher to teacher in the larger schools. The Professor is also an expert on sociology, and those interested in this everincreasing problem would do well to hear him." Professor Adams arrives in Auckland on Monday, 'and, provided that the boat berths in time, he will be the guest of the Rotary Club at its luncheon. In the afternoon he will meet, at the Training College, teachers and educationists who have been invited by Mr. Cousins, the principal. On Tuesday afternoon the Professor will lecture to teachers at the Training College on "Post-primary Education." On Wednesday evening he will speak on "Tendencies of Modern Education" at a public meeting in the Scots Hall, when the Mayor, Sir James Gunson, will preside. On Thursday Professor Adams will give another lecture to teachers at the Training College on "Education and the New Psychology," and in the afternoon will address the members of the Lyceum Club. In addition he will give other lectures to the Training College students, and will no doubt take the opportunity to visit local schools and other places of educational interest.
