Jim Smith. n.IOJ, v. Bugler Coles. 0.13. The Naval man, a busy little fellow, was good while he lasted, but went down for six early in the second, and a moment later collapsed heavily in mid-rin;r, and the fight was stopped. Smith receiving the award just as the Philomel man struggled up. A. Burt. 9.GJ, v. G. Bangs. o.l3*.—The gong saved Danks, who was down at the end of the first round —a farcical affair— and the decision was awarded to Burt without further ado. J,. Gee. 9.8, v. D. Tozer. 0.3.—1t was a little man against a tall man, the latter being the heavier. The first round was a well-intentioned mixture of wrestling, quadrille-dancing, and boxing. The little man tumbled over five times. In the second they fell over each other, and Tozer remained down for nine. Tozer looked as though he had been well satisfied before the gong, and Gee got the decision. Second Round. Peryer v. Gee.—ln the fourth round, Peryer dropped Gee, and the bout was stopped. Peryer getting the award. K. Trowem, 0.85, V. J. Broadfoot, 10.0. A very solidly built boser, Broadfoot scored even points wifh Trowem in the opening round, which was the best of the night up till that time. Some •willing exchanges were seen in the second round, which brought loud applause. Broadfoot was down for eight at the beginning, but he made a good recovery. The third was a ■whirlwind of blows, with Broadfoot swinging rather wliaiy, though lie used his right effectively, and it was a strenuous, tirinc round, with little between the pair! Trowern showed himself a clever exponent of elusive tactics, and also a hard hitter. The final round was Trowern's, and lie received a popular decision. .T. Colledge, 9.5. v. J. Smith. 8.13J.—1n this bout Smith, last year's North Island champion, was beaten by the Walhi boxer, who fought doggedly against a more aggressive man. Smith was wild at times, and the calm determination _nf Colledge, who connected with well-considered punches to head and bodj-, won the fight. The decision met with a mixed reception, the general opinion being that aaetUer round stiould have been ordered. Welter-weight. n. McGlone, 10.C, v. J. Fletcher, 10.1J. — Using- his longer react. McGione set the pace in the opening canto, but Fletcher connected frequently and tapped the red in tbe second, and the third was a highly coloured affair at McGlone's expense. Before the end of the round he went down, and it was Fletcher's fight. R. MeKnight. 10.4, v. J. Bruce, 10.9.— Smiling all the time, Bruce was kept backmoving throughout the first round, Jn which both lads gave a fast and scientific exhibition. McKnlght became even more aggressive in the second and toured the ring several times in pursuit of Bruce, who took no chances with his experienced! opponent. There was only one ending, of course, but Bruce put up a very pluckjfight before being knocked out in the fourth. Middle-weight. V. ,T. Parker. 10.11. v. F. Burfce. 1O.»J. The heavier man was too strong and knew too much for Burke, who struggled g:amely on for the full distance to lose the decision and take a lot of punishment. D. Mitchell, 11.31, v. G. McCormick, 10.11.—1n tbe second round, McCormick, who had made most of the fight, was dropped with a right swing to the head. Heavy-weight. S. Litt, 13.0, v. S. Diinstan. 12.8.—The first round was dull. Matters took a turn for the better in the second, though Dunstan was still making all the fight, Lett being inclined to crouch too long, giving Dunstan the chance to beat him to the punch. Litt scored with right body rips, when Dunstan smothered, but it was tame boxing. Very few clean hits were scored in the third, which was mostly clinching, for which Litt was warned. The final was a furious round, in which Dunstan pasted tis taller opponent, who sought relief by crowding him on to the ropes. Dunstan got a popular decision.
