STATE GOVERNOR'S FRAUD.
TEN YEARS IX TRISON. There is another Governor of a gront State in a prison cell. Tliis time it is was convicted ad an indictment charging him with the use <>r mails to defraud. McCray I was in financial difficulties, and in order to extricate himself devised various wildcat schemes. The jury required only fifteen to convict Ititn on s. chnruc of forging hundreds of fraudulent notes sent through the States mails. In refusing bail, Judge Anderson, at Indianapolis, declared that he had "never seen !bo many felonies committed by one individual." The Governor's fraudulent Fchonics were curried on o linos t entirely Iby the use of the mails. He had not ciI pected a gaol sentence, or even a temporary Btay In gaol pending sentence — lin fnct. he had telephoned home *syi ins that he would be "back for supper." I Indianapolis dispatches intimate that the Governor will "probably" resign his great office after conviction. If he does not it is certain the Indiana Legislature will oust the unworthy servant by the I I American pictures of- this gentleman show Mm arriving at a State penitentiary apparently in the pink of condition. 2rt stone in weight and exuberantly cheerful as he who goes to a "wedding and not to a gaol. Admiring State officials and policemen are grouped round the eminent thief with an appearance of Rmiling envy. Many political grafters sentenced to ten -years' gaol in the United States have had to serve as much as si* months.
