LORRY'S WILD DASH.
A ROT DOWNHILL. A peculiar accident, in -which an iee\vagon, a safety zone, a taxi, and an hotel were concerned, occurred in Wellesley Street West at about 8.40 a.m. to-day. A large Dennis motor lorry, loaded with ice, the property of the' Auckland Farmers Freezing 'Company was left standing on the western side of the street, while the driver went into a shop. Before he returned the heavy vehicle commenced to run backwards down the incline. It gathered speed performed a semi-circle when almost opposite the Opera House, ran straight across the centre of the safety zone on the other side of the street, smashed into the rear of a taxi, carrying it O n to the footpath, and then finished with a final crash up against the wall of the Lnited Service Hotel. The lorrr T.lVrt T 7 - dama ? ed . but the rear wheel of the tan, a Lexington five-seat J was torn off when the lorry knocked it against the kerbing. it
