HEAVY GALE AT PAEROA.

LOW AREAS FLOODED. The severest easterly gale yet experienced in Paeroa commenced on Friday night, and was raging till late on Saturday afternoon. Torrential rain fell, and low-lying areas in the town and its environs were flooded. At some parts on the outskirts of the town the water was several feet deep. The storm caused complete disorganisation of the telegraph service on Saturday. Serious slips and washouts occurred on the Paeroa-Waihi Road. Ohinemuri River is in high flood, but is confined within its banks. The electric light line between Paeroa and Waikino was partially disorganised, but was restored last night. Minor damage comprised broken windows, tree 9 uprooted, a baker's cart blown over, and gardens severely buffetted. But little damage was caused by the flood waters, which are rapidly receding.
