S. AFRICAN CRICKETERS. DEFEATED BY NOTTS. i • LONDON, May 16. ; In their match against the South African eleven, Notts made 238 runs for . seven wickets in their second innings. John Gunn (not out), compiled 89, George Gu'nn 1 58, Staples 22, and Whysall 21. Peeler 1 took four wickets for 47 runs. Notts thus won- by three wickets. Notts bad all day in which to knock np the 238 required to win. They batted on a good wicket in fine, but threatening weather. The Gunn brothers declined to hurry, only scoring 00 in two hours. The visitors never looked like winners. They lacked the smartness and sparkle of Australian cricketers. There was excitement when, with eight runs needed to win, Pegler dismissed three men In five balls. Nourse's (Notts) century brings his firetclass cricket total to 10,000 runs.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
