GALE AT TE AROHA.
TOWNSHIP IN DARKNESS. SHED LIFTED BODILY. (Bj- Ti-legrapb.— Special to "Star.") TE AROHA, this day. Yesterday morning light showers commenced to fall over Te Aroha district, and later in the day heavy rain set in. Strong gusts of wind acecompanied the downpour, gradually growing in force. By evening the wind developed hurricane force occasionally, the electric power failed, and business places were | left in darkness. During the night j rain and wind continued. ' A Waitoki a shed was lifted | off a hill and dropped on to the i roadway. The "Auckland Star" car's I driver had to remove part of the debris before he was able to proceed early this morning. Trees and telephone wires are down, and the Thames Valley Power Board reticulation is out of order. The "Star" car had a narrow escape from serious accident between Waihou and Te Aroha last night, having collided with a tree that had fallen across the road. The car sustained only slight damage, the promptitude of the driver averting a serious accident.
