ALLEGED CONTEMPT.
APPLICATION AGAINST PAPER. COMMENT IN COURT' CASE. LONDON, -May IC. An unsuccessful application was made before tlie-King's Bench division for a rule nisi for alleged contempt of Court against the "Daily Mail." This was a sequel to certain information published by the paper named concerning an approaching action, Charles Robineon y. the Midland Bank, a claim for £125,000. Lord llalebury, who appeared for the! applicant, declared that behind the pending case there wast a sinister, wicked, and criminal conspiracy. He said that a person ;in a high position was connected with, the case. In referring to Mr; Robinson's claim, the newspaper .referred to a cheque for £150,000 drawn by an Indian Rajah in favQUt of the claimant. The article also mentioned; Mr. Robinson's allegation that the money was drawn out of the batik liy-'means of forged cheques. Lord- Halsbury' declared that the term "Rajah" 'jwas inadcurate. The case would certainly: be the most amazing ever heard before the Court. - Continuing. Lord Halsbury said that after the pleadings had closed, the, bank had added a charge o' the grossest (rand against the claimant, suggesting that he was one of the conspirators. The Brench held that it had not been shown that the article wag calculated to prevent a fair trial, whatever might be snid concerning the expediency or taste of such" 1 a publication.— (A. and X.Z.)
