INFANTILE MORTALITY.

I • POSITION IN AUCKXAHD. TIMARU WITH LOWEST RATE., The infantile mortality figures in tie latest issue of the "New Zealand Gazette" shows that for the first four months of the year the town of Timaru had the lowest rate, namely 1.00 per I 100 births, while Nelson held the unenviable position of the highest loss, namely, 10.96 lives in every hundred. Auckland lost 4.77 in every hundred ■births; "Wellington, 3.94: Christchnrci, 3-74; and Dunedin, 1.85. Hamiltonmortality rate per 100 births wis slightly higher than that of Auckland,, namely, 4.86, and that of Gisborne was 7.14. Over all areas the rate was 4.13, as compared with 4.34 for the first fourmonths of last year. In the month of April no deaths were recorded in Auckland as a result of puerperal eepti« caemia.
