PAPAKURA TOWN BOARD.

The usual fortDlghtly meeting of the I'upakura Town Board was held in the Tott-u Board offlces. Present: The chalrmau (Mr. D. Weir), Rev. W. C. Wood, Messrs. Isates, Nicholson, Young, and Kliiud, together with the clerk, Air. A. L. Cooper, and the foreman, Mr. James K. Morilleau. Main Highways.—A letter was received from the Public Works LHstric! Engineer aud cliairmau of No. 2 District Council slating that the Great South Road is one of the roads in the No. 1! Main Highways District which it is proposed to declare'a main highway and lhat portion of the <iroat South Uoad through the Papakura Town District will be included in this declaration, also pointing out that the Main Highways Act provides for onethird of the cost of maintenance, when carried out to the approval of the Main Highways Board. The engineer further pointed out that maintenance work of a rather urgent nature was required upon the Papakura section of the Great South Road, aDd requested the board to notify him if they were prepared to carrry on with such maintenance on the conditions outlined, as it was obvious that if the necessary maintenance was delayed the ultimate cost was liable to very materially increase. It was moved that a deputation consisting of the chairman, Rev. Wood, and Mr. Walker meet the Department's representative when he visits Papakura. Carried. Proposed Papnknra-Pahurehure Road.— The Franklin County Council reported that In accordance with instruction received from the board, this road had boon defined and an engineering survey made. The total ienetli to be constructed j. i_c, chillis. This lies between the end of (be metal road in ..lliott Street. Papakura. and the intersection of Oakland's Estate Road. The following estimate Is hnsed on a roadway 20 feet in width from Klliott Street for 'a distance of 25 chains and from this point to Oakland's Road. 24 feet in width, provision is made for a suitable embankment and retaining wail nver the tidal estuary at the end of Klliott Street.
