SALE OF STUD JERSEYS.

— _ Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report having conduci.fi two sales of stud Jerseys in the Feilding district on account of Messrs. C. G. C. Dormer, "Waipiko," and Kilgonr and Gibson, "Middlewood." These sales hud to be postponed recently on account of the strike, and ns is generally the case in such circumstances the attendance, especially of buyers from a distance, suffered severely. Nevertheless 92 head, all uses, were sold at the two sales for an average exceeding 50 guineas. At the lirst day's sale, conducted in conjunction with Messrs. Levin nnd Co., a draft of 52 head from the "Waipiko" herd wore offered. This herd has produced in the descendants of Emincnt's Fontaine (imp.), some of the greatest butterfat producers nnd sires of producers in the Dominion, but owing to the fact that there wns a reserve on the pick of the cattle offered, bidding was not spirited. Thirtyone head was sold at nn average price of 65 guineas. Competitions was keenest for the !»-months-old bulls, which averaged 75 guineas for tho seven heart sold, which is sound proof that dairymen are at last awakened to the necessity for heading their ! herds with pedigree siros bred from proven butterfat producing strains. The top price of 102 guineas was paid by Mr. M. Criinniins, Wnifcino. Thames, for a 7-months-old calf out of Waipiko Jolly, which produced C10.41h butterfat as a junior 2-year-old, nnd won second prize in the Itawcra t'soo C.O.R. Stakes. Feilding. j At the second day's sale, held in conjunction with Messrs. Ahrahnm and Wil- . linms, Ltd.. the buying public soon made it I apparent that they appreciated the fact I that the complete herd was offered wirhi out reserve. Although it could not be claimed thnt the "Middlewood" herd had , a wealth of butterfat bucking supporting i the stock offered, the lines of breeding represented wore known to be standard ones for production. Brod on country ISOO foot above soa level, it was also cer- | tnin that the stock would do well in any | district, hence competition was consistent . right through tho sale, and tho 61 head 1 averaged 41 guineas. Tho best prices wore paid for heifers sired by Bridge View Magnet, a grandson of the groat butterfat sire X.C.8., and a sou of Pulchra's Queen, Gi.Glb fat nt four years of ago.
