AUCKLAND NOT SUITABLE. | SOUTH AFRICA THE ALTERNATIVE^ A brief cable message froni the Y*l» University authorities, which the Mayor (Mr. J. H. Gunson) read to the Cjty Cduncil last evening, announced that - Auckland had been found unsuitable for the establishment and working of the Yale telescope. The Mayor explained that last year » tentative agreement was entered ieto with the Vale University authoritie* for the establishment of a large telescope it. Auckland. tests were taken, and th» records sent to Yale. Under date of the 14th instant a cable in the following terms was received:"Board decides Auckland not quite suitable for our special requirements. Letter follows." Previous advices indicated that if Auckland was deemed to be unsuitable the alterna- • I tive was South Africa.' No doubt letter I advices will bring further information.
