Gunson) read to the City Council last evening, announced that ; Auckland had been found unsuitable for i tho establishment and working of the Yale telescope. The Mayor explained that last year a. tentative agreement was entered into | with the Yale University authorities for j the establishment of a large telescope at ; Auckland. Tests were taken, and the ; r.cords sent to Yale. Under date of the j 14th instant a cable in the following i terms was received:"Board decides Auckland not quite suitable for our special requirements. Letter follows." Previous advices indicated that if Auckland was deemed to be unsuitable the alternaI tive was South Africa.'
