TEACHERS' MEMORIAL.
MORE MONEY REQUIRED.
SELECTION OF SITE BY VOTK
That an effort be made to raise a fur. ther sum of money for the proposed memorial to fallen soldier-teachers was the decision of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute to-day. It. was stated that £320 was in hand.
Two proposals came before the meeting, the first being that memorial gates be erected in or near the proposed new training college at Epsom. Against this it was urged that a more suitable site for a teachers' memorial would be in the vicinity of the proposed Auckland Memorial Museum. Speakers pointed out that any teachers' memorial on the latter site would have to be in keeping with its magnificent surroundings. There was a sharp difference of opinion on the question of a site, and it was resolved to defer consideration till the cost of memorial gates at the new training college and the cost of a suitable memorial at the museum had been ascertained by the management committee, and that the site be decided upon by a referendum of teachers.
