ARSENIC AND GERMS.
WIFE SATS WERE PLACED IN
FOOD.
NEW YORK, April 30,
Clarence Baring, chemist, has been indicted on a charge of having attempted to murder bis wife by feeding her with arsenic and disease germt. The wife has testified that she had some food analysed after having become violently ill. Diphtheria, scarlet fever, pneumonia, and other bacilli were found in the food.
Detectives disguised as hospital attendants arrested Baring when he called for his daily supply of bacilli, supposedly for use in experiments. The case is similar to that of Arthur Waite, a dentist, who was electrocuted in 1916. He killed his father-in-law and mother-in-law with arsenic, after a long study and careful scientific application of germs had failed.
