WAR IN THE AIR.

HORRORS OF EFFICIENCY.

STRIKE, HXLI,, AND FLY.

A RACE FOR SUPREMACY.

(By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright)

(RecelTed 12 noon.) LONDON, May 14.

The "Daily Mail" describes a new giant aero engine with novel wing devices and development in metal construction, permitting the machines to be designed in a size hitherto impossible, and turning a new stage in history.

The newest wonders include bombers with multi-enpined power plants, practically eliminating; the risks of forced landi ings, able to fly at Buch tremendous speed that defence becomes daily more difficult.

Another variety single-seater fighter is equipped with huge engines, enabling it to rise up almost vertically, and attaining vast heights with a rapidity formerly considered impossible. A new armament race has begun between the nations to develop immensely long-range planes dipable of striking blows at distant bases.

Experiments are proceeding in Tefuelling in flight from winged tankers, with a view to increased range.—(A. and K.Z. Cable.)
