POLICE COURT.

REMANDED.

Augustus Boose (26) appeared in answer to a charge that, being an adjudged bankrupt, he did leave Xew Zealand before the presentation of a bankruptcy petition against him.

Chief Detective Cummings stated tbafc accused had been extradited from Australia. The amount involved was approximately £1800. Accused was remanded until the 22nd. Bail in the Bum of £300 was allowed. STOLE HIS BROTHER'S GUN. A pica of guilty was entered by Roy Harris (29), who was charged with, the theft of a shot-gun, the property of his brother, and valued at £5. He admitted that he took the gun from bis brother's house and sold it for £3 when he was hard up. However, he stated that the gun belonged to. the family and was registered in his brother's name.

Samuel O. Harris, brother of accused, said that he wished the charge to be withdrawn. Accused was addicted to drink, and witness thought a term on the island would do him good. Senior Sergeant Rawle said that accused was a pensioner in receipt of 18/6 per week, and that he had not done any work for three years.

On accused informing the magistrate that he was willing to go down to the inebriates' island for twelve months, Mr. Poynton remanded him for one week, so that the necessary application could be made. PROBATION GRANTED. A young married man named Harold Samuel I. Hendricksen pleaded guilty to failing to account for various sums of money, totalling £44 5/1, to his employers, F. and VV. Carbines.

Detective Lambert said that Hendrickscn liad beefo employed for the last seven months as a milk retailer, and his duties included the collecting of accounts for F. and W. Carbines. His -wages were £3 18/ per week, free milk, and a bonus. Apart from the present lapse, witness said Hendricksen's general character had been good-

Mr. Hall Skelton, wJjo appeared for the accused, informed Mr. Poynton that the money would all be paid back forthwith.' Accused was rather a delicate man, and recently he had experienced trouble with his domestic affairs. Counsel said that accused's wife had been mixed up in spiritualism, and had been told that she had good grounds for divorce. As a result she had left her husband on six occasions, when really there was nothing in what the "spirits" had told her. Accused had taken,the money in small lots, fully intending to pay it back. Mr. : Hall Skelton urged the magistrate to grant probation in this case.

Mr. Poynton admitted Hendricksen to two years' probation, and made an order that the mone3 r taken should be paid forthwith. A SARTORIAL MATTER. Leslie James Byrne, who was yesterday before the Court and remanded on a charge of having obtained a suit of clothes by falsely representing that he had paid for the euit, appeared this morning.

Chief Detective Cumminga stated that restitution amounting to eleven guineas had been made.

Byrne, who had previously borne a good character, was admitted to probation for one year-
