The new building is to be built in concrete, with rough-cast walls, and several residents during the past few days have been carting the necessary gravel from the river. • At the annual meeting of the Waipa Rugby Referees' Association, Mr. I. F. McDonald was elected president, and Mr. D. Wallace secretary. At the monthly meeting of the Te Awamutu Power Board, Mr. J. T. Johnson' presiding, a petition was received from twenty-five Kiokio ratepayers asking the board to reticulate that district, and stating that they were prepared to apply for power at once. The manager reported that the' revenue for the month of February was: Lighting £282 4/8, heating £32 18/S, power £616 0/1 ; meter rents, street: lights, etc., £79 11/2—making __ total of £1011 0/7, as against & 759 15/2 for the same period last year. TE AROHA. Mr. N. Quirk has donated a silver cup,. valued at £10 10/, to tne Polo Club to be competed for ac the sports gathering: ■ . The Leader of the Opposition is expected ' to visit the Thames Valley shortly. The - organiser for the party paid a visit to the district this week. Although the advance payments for 'butterfat have bean somewhat reduced lately, the quantities or milk and cream now being received at the factories are keeping up remarkably well, consequent oh the decided flush of pastures. The latter fact tends to compensate farmers for the reduced advance payments. At a meeting of farmers it was decided to form a Veterinary Club, with a members _ _\_°._rP°- The membership fee was fixed at £2 10/, or £5 .if only 100 members are en- - rolled. A committee was elected to canvass the district, and Air. w A Clark was appointed secretary, pro tern. RAIJGATAUA. Mr. H. Diggle, the new stationmast-T, is expected to take np his duties this week. Mr. H. D. Hickey, relieving officer, has been in charge. ..__ Pleasant evening was spent in the Methodist Church Hall when Rev. and -Mrs. Spencer, of Raetihi, were the guests on "___ , eve of tbelr departure from this parochial district to reside at Eketahuna. After the concert Mr. Lucas (in the chair) presented the guests with a cheque, subscribed by the church members, and wished them every success in their new sphere. Rev Mr. Spencer, in reply, said he was deeply grateful for the kindness which had been extended to himself and his wife during their stay in this district. The following contributed items to the con-. cert:—Mrs. Murdie, Mrs. Schrodder, Mr. Philpotts, the Village Choir, and the Glee Club—all gave songs; Master Mclvor, recitation; Miss Selman and Mr. Mines, nolm and organ solo. Mr. Spencer also rendered several items. PUTARURTT. At the annual meeting of the rutsruru District Development League, Mr. J. R. C. Lochhcad (as chairman) submitted a report which stated that such subjects as Arapuni and the Taupo Totara Timber Company's railway line had brought before the board many matters of vital interest to the progress and welfare of tho district. These had been duly dealt with, and although in all caseg success had not yet been obtained, it was mostly within measurable distance. The report and the accompanying financial statement, which showed the board funds to be £5 in credit, were adopted. The following were elected the Development Board for the ensuing 12 months:—Messrs. Lochhead, Martin, C. G. Alcom. D. D. Sneddon, A. R. Vosper, H. J. W. Scott. K. S. Cox, R. E. Brown, F. C. Flyger and J Smith. ■ Building activity is particularly noticeable in Putaruru at present, indicative or the pKOgress which the town continues to make. On one corner opposite the post office a double-storey block, comprising five shops on the ground floor and offices above, is in course of erection, while another block of three shops is being built in Princes Street.
