MOTORISTS HELD UP.
THE ARIZONA TROUBLE. „ WBATH OF THE TRAVELLERS LOS ANGELES, April 20. One thousand six hundred east-bound motorists in 600 motorcars were yesterday stranded at the Xeedles, Arizona, as the result of two fresh outbreaks oi foot and mouth disease in Southern California. A semblance of peace was effected to-day by the Arizona Governor's action in temporarily lifting the quarantine and permitting the 400 marooned motor tourists to proceed eastward. This action lias somewhat relieved the heavy pressure of traffic. There are, however, at least 1200 more motorists now waiting their turn at the fumigating plant, which has been specially erected on the California side by the tourists to expedite their passage. Tiic wrath of these travellers is increasing in view of the statement of the Secretary of Agriculture (Mr. Wallace) to the effect that the Federal quarantine measures obviate the necessity of supplementary State rulings. Talcs of privation continue to come from the California tourist camp: A fiaby is reported to have been born there. The general suffering of the travellers is l>eing aggravated by intense heat in the Jay and severe cold at night. The citiwns of Arizona have organised relief, m<l are sending food supplies across the line.—(A. and X.Z. Cable.)
