McConachy is going to South Africa, where he will practise with the ivories and return to Britain in time for. the next championship. Newman expressed the opinion that it was unlikely ivory balls would be abolished in his life-time. There was enough ivory to last for many years. Recce expressed an opposite view. He said he believed ivories would be obsolete in a few years owing to the shortage of elephants.—("Sun" Cable.)
