THE COROMANDEL REGATTA.

EXCEPTIONALLY FINE WEATHER. A GREAT SUCCESS. The Coromandel regatta, which was rerived last Easter after a long lapse, was sprain held on Easter Saturday at Tawhiti Bay at the entrance to Coromandel harbour, and passed off very successfully. From an early hour yachts and launches gathered alongside Coromandel wharf ana .mbarked parties of residents who were conveyed to Tawhiti Bay. an ideal spot for a boating picnic and regatta, and only twenty minutes' run from the wharf Arrived at the bay the visitors were landed alongside a punt thoughtfully provided by ihe committee, after which preparation's were completed for the racing programme. The weather was ideal. although the wind was a bit light at times. The events were races for the 26 and 24 footers. 20 and _- footers, IS footers and under, keel yachts and launches. Tbe races all started off the bay between the launch Speedwell and mark moored inshore; the course lying round the cow. an isolated rock oft the entrance, thence round a mark boat off the Sugarloaf on the far side of the harbour and back to the starting line off the bay. The following are the results:— -6 Footers, start 11.30 a.m. First prize £2, second fl.—The entries and handicaps were Starlight scratch. Sadie lm. Omatere 3m, Awatere o_m. Sadie was first away, the wind giving them a beat out to the Cow a run back and a lead to the finish. Starlight, Omatere and Awatere were right after her. but Sadie held her lead throughout, and the finish was timed: Sadie lb. 16m 545, Starlight lhlTm 465, Omatere lh 2lm 15s, Awatere lh 24m 14s. Corrected times place Sadie 1, Starlight 2, Omatere 3. 20 and 22 Footers. First prize £3, second £1, and third one gallon copper paint.—This race went away at 11.40 a.m. over the same course. Tho entries and handicaps were Marie scratch, Valeria 2*m. Kokiri 3_m. Lcvehght sm, Ngaru 6m, Otira 7m, Winifred im. Wairere 7Jm, Wayward 9m. This was a pretty start, Winifred getting away first, followed by Marie, Valeria.
