MASTERTON Sunday. - The McVilly Shield, tbe emblem of the Country Club Premiership in the athletic Held, was competed for here yesterday, when teams from Wanganui, Levin, and Manawatu contested Masterton's right to the trophy. Masterton won with a clear margin, the totals being:—Masterton, 110 points; Manawatu, 30; Levin, 25: Wanganui, 3: Masterton Harriers, 1. Levin had a fully j representative team, Manawatu was slightly less in number, while Wanganui was not fully represented. The only standard broken was the high vault, G. Harvey clearing lift lin. An outstanding performance was that of G. Cooksley," of Manawatu, who stole a march on the Oakley brothers in, the mile cycle championship, when they appeared to have it In hand. AXEMEN'S CARNIVAL.
