AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIP THE FIRST SIXTEEN. MATCH ROUND TO-DAY. Great interest is displayed this year In the Auckland Golf Club's Easter tournament at Middlemore. The qualifying rounds for the Auckland provincial amateur championship (George Memorial Cup) were played on Saturday, and some eighty players disputed the right to be included In the sixteen who play in the championship. Some good cards were returned, the best score being that of H. B. Lusk, with 158, which was two strokes better than It. D. Wright. The performances of the first sixteen were:—
In the first round, W. Bell, with 79, was the best performance, bnt In the second he took 86. Luslc took 83 in the first, but a fine round of 75 in the second put him at the top of the list. The present holder of ttie title, R. D. Wright, filled second place in each round, with 81 and 79. THE MEDAL HANDICAP. The medal handicap competition, over 36 holes, was held in conjunction with tlm qualifying rounds. At the end of the first 18 holes, the lead was held by J. L. B. Bloomfleld, handicap 12, and T. Mackenzie, handicap 16, wltli net scores of 5... These players failed to maintain their position however, and tne handicap resulted
