A mouse rushed in where men had feared to tread, and there followed a stir among the ladies of the Women's Christian Temperance Union convention at New Plymouth, during the afternoon tea adjournment on Wednesday. But there was no excited gathering of garments in a wild rush for chairs, tables and other elevated places as might have taken place in the less practical age when skirts had not been shortened and W.C.T.U.'s wer non-existent. Outnumbered a hundred to one, the mouse paid dearly for its inquisitiveness. A savage, well-directed blow from a feminine foot and it ceased to take any further interest in mundane affairs.
