RGjral Present continues to train on -well at Ellerslie. He is hitting out freely in his work, tout has not been asked to register his best of late.

Prettyman. which has proved more than a payable proposition this season, still retains his well-trained appearance, and got through a userul circuit at headquarters on Thursday in company.

The success or Dancing Doll at TrenIfiain on Thompson Handicap day was well anticipated locally, and the dividend returned came as a pleasant surprise to her supporters.

W. J. Porter arrived at Ellerslie during tne weelc In charge of Kinkora. which has engagements at the approaching A.R.C. Autumn Meeting , . Kinkora is located at E. Stewart's stables.

Old Vagabond ran a good race in the High-weight Welter at Trentham on Thursday. He was fairly prominent in the early steges, and, going on. linishert rourth. He should be good for winter racing.

Noticeable among entries Tor the A.R.C Autumn Meeting are the names or Loughrea and First Born. The latter is likely to be taken across to Australia Tor hurdle events. His presence in the Brighton Hurdles neld would add considerable interest to that event.

The absence of King , Merv's name from the list of Easter Handicap nominations /or Ellerslie came as a surprise to northerners. The entries include all the nest handicap performers racing in the Dominion, except probably Rapine (whose name is missing from the list) and Rose-

■i-a Sllv^ r,on (MiHs) and Peter Amans (Roach) finished in front of King Pellicule (H. Tinker) over four hurdles at Ellerslie last Thursday morning. The trio were practically on terms at the third rence where King Pellicule made a slight error but stood his ground and cleared the last obstacle safely.

Musketoon and Rawhetu are two noticeable acceptors for the Manawatu meeting S n S, xb £ Ellerslie trained pair will probably be taken to Awapuni for competi?,*k have been aolne nirel >* ln tnct r work, without registering anything reaUy fast in the nature of time.

Tract watchers were rather surprised to note Jolie Princess run what was regarded as a good six furlongs on >"o 3 grass track at Ellerslie on Thursday and run away rrom two others, but she had a ■very light bor in the saddle However that she has not lost her speed i=! certain' which augurs well for her prospects over hurdles when she has had public experience in that department of the game.

■ Sweet Friar, the chestnut pony which was sent across to Sydney early in Hie sbason, but went slig-htly wrong , ana was returned to Auckland, is going along soundly, and bas been entered for the A.R.C. Autumn Meeting, after which ]. Adolph's charge will probably be again taken to Australia.

: Ballrmens won the TVew Zealand Pt Leger Stakes nicely. After inriiilcinsr The aiiller in the lead Tor about four furlongs Ballymena took charge, and was never afterwards headed, winning by a couple or lengths comrrortably. Ballymena in in good h£art, and if taken to Auckand will give a good account of himself over a distance.

, i Quiescent, which opposed Gloaming- in the Challenge Stakes at Wellington on Thursday, is a very nice two-year-old, and should he heard or again at the distance He responded well when called on by his i-taer, which showed that he might run out good six furlongs. However, he had no ■clianee. and was beaten by live lengths at the finish, sir. V. Riddirord has a good, ■game sort in Quiescent, and he should see a l)etter day.

i The team taken to Wellington by Mr. Ji -Carroll (Frankton) was not quite good enough, ror three of them were runners-up in as many events. The Cur-,l-agti was second to .Musical Alfort second in the Thomson Handicap, and King- Merv Just got beaten by Martian Miss in The Railway. Strang-ely enough. Airort and hing- Mer» are given in the official card as being trained by J. M. Buchanan, of ..piersHe, -which is incorrect. The latter naa Alfort at one stag-e or liis career,, but TOver had charge of King Merv

Fool's Paradise, owned by Mr. E. Riddiford. showed up prominently for lour furlongs in UiP I'lunkel .Nursery at Wellinplun. A stake stiould g-o hls'way beloro lonjr. ».

Subjection, by Martian—Submersion, owned by Mr, W. E. Bidwell, is a likely sort, and witn age should show to bet4er advantage than He did at Trentliaiu on Thursday.

Rapine looked well to the eye at Trent - liain, and llnlshed well up, but ihr conr.*n was too short. The Autumn Handicap at Christchurch. at Easter, one mile and alialf. provided the handicapper is not too strong on him, should be within his grasp.

I'illinwinkie, like Rapine, found the distance or the Thomson Handicap a little. too short rot- him. Ho was running on at the finish, and might be troublesome in an event up to a mile and a-half in the near future.

Refrigeration, a Martian filly owned by Mr. \V. E. Bidwill. which won at Wellington In the spring and at Masterton recently, was close up. firth, in the Railway Handicap at Trenthani on Thursday, and mure should be-beard of her.

Corinthic, by Solferino —Orcenstrcet. owned by Mr. G. I). Greenwood, was a runner iti the juvenile event at Trenthani on Thursday. She raced, fairly well in the big Held, being- close up at the llnish. and should g-ain distinction in sprint events next season.

King Merv was made a very hot proposition for the Railway Handicap at the Treiktham meeting. He was in the van an tho way, but nrtv yards from home was challenged by Martian Miss, which got up in time to beat him by half-a-length, in the good time or 1.11 4-5, and return her supporters over a score.

Bosh was coupled with Father's Voice in the Plunket Nursery at Trenthani on Thursday. Her Excellency Lady Jellirqe has a lease or Father's Voice from his breeder, Mr. \V. G. Stead, while Bosh, which was taken to Sydney for Hie sales last year and was brought back again, Is owned by Mr. Stead.

Beep Dlive. by Autumnus—-Countermine, which is well enough bred to win a juvenile race, was never prominent at any stage of the I'lunket Nursery at Wellington. Sir George Clifford, lias not the youngsters he used 10 have some seasons ago.

Viewpoint, which is owned by Pir George Clifford, and won at Dunedin. looked very fit when stripped for the High-weight Handicap, at Trentham on Thursday. The best he could do. however, was to finish third in a Held or a dozen. But he might run better at the Canterbury Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting..

Landslide was in the picture in the Thompson Handicap for quite a while, and with MurJhaupo carried on the running till tbe straight, when both faded out. There was a great finish. Sunny Loch. Alfort, Suggestion, Red Wink, and Sunart crossing the line together. The judge decided in favour of Sunny Loch.

Tuahine, owned by Mr. A. B. Williams, was made a good second favourite Tor the Plunket Nursery at the Wellington Autumn on Thursday, but the best she could do was to finish third. Tuahine is a shapely filly, and did not get too good a passage. One would not say she was capable of beating Father's Voice at Iftvel weights.

Lady Bentinek raced well at Trentham on Thursday, and, exception Father's Voice. she had the lest of the youngsters well beaten in Hie Plnnket Nursery for lour furlongs. The winner had very little on the daughter of Absurd, but over the concluding stage sli* was not able to foot it with Father's Voice. Lady Bentinek. however, ran a creditable race, and slie will do belter later.

Mr. Ernest Alison won the Sllverstream Handicap at Trenthani on Thursday with Dancing Doll. She was not sighted in the early stages, but at the distance shot oui of a bunched field, just when Clandhu was being proclaimed the winner, and got up to win by half a length. J. O'Shea was in the saddle, and handled the daughter or Black Jester well at the ihiish. The dividend was a double-figure one.

The Curragh. trained by M. J. Carroll. Frankton Junction, made a great bid for victory in the High-weight Handicap at Wellington cm Thursday. He came from a long way back in the straight, and at the distance headed Musical, hut could not iro on with it. The effort was surprising, for in Auckland recently he lias only been over hurdles. If lie could only jump in accordance with the pace he showed he would soon credit his owner with an event over tho battens."

Father's Voice is a quod sort, and It was pleasing to SPC her Excellency's colours first past, the post. Tho colt, which was ridden by C. need, was always well placed, and had the race won when the field straightened up Tor home. The time, 1.0 I--" was good, and if Father's Voice were to meet Motley it would he an interesting race, though there Is little chance this season, ror .Mr. Curries representative to try conclusions witli her Excellency's colt.

One who studios breedinp will not have an Absurd as a stayer. The best in New Zealand Tor a mile and a quarter to : (lay is rather surprising to see Parody, the Auckland Railway Handicap winner, entrusted with more money in the St. I.eger than Tarleton. Parody moved up across the top, and her supporters -were proclaimingher victory, but she then died away, and eventually finished rourtli. Parody showed a great deal or speed at stafces In the race, and if favourably treatetl in the Great Ea-ter Handicap, at the CJ.C. Autumn Meeting- it would not be surnrisingr to see her close up at the llnisli. Parody i≤ very wen at present.
