"Miss Neta Derrett, heroine of the Bronte shark attack, who lost a leg and a foot as the result of the terrifying experience, had a presentiment, days beforehand, that something terrible was about to happen. She was conscious throughout the attack, and remembers every incident clearly. She is now definitely out of danger. Interviewed in ."St. Vincent's Hospital, she told a remarkable story. ""I was only out to my waist in water," she said, "when I noticed a wave coming, and as I knew it would pro over my head and I cannot swim, I jumped as it reached mc. That jump. 1 believe, saved my life, for the shark, which must have been lurking: behind the wave, attacked mc as I was off my feet. It caught mc by the left leg, and I knew i was facing eternity. *("od forgive everything.' I said, and I remember feeling my leg snap. The next thins; 1 knew was the shark 'biting my rLrht foot, though I felt no pain from the second attack. I heard my mother cry out, 'Oh! my girl,' and it "acted on mc like magic. "All the fighting spirit I possess seemed to rise at that, and I knew I must fight the shark. I beat on the ■ water with my hands as the shark came at mc the third time, and 1 saw the white on its skin underneath as it turned on its side. I screamed for help and my nephews came out to mc. I noticed the water was red with blood, and as they took mc in their arms I looked dgwn and saw that the leg was gone."' *"I said. 'Oh! Jim, I think I'm done,' and at that stage someone else came on the scene and helped to carry mc on to the beach. Miss Derrett said she was conscious the whole of the time, and each incident was indelibly impressed on her memory.
