CITY COUNCIL WORKS.
ROADS, TRAMS, AND WATER. NEW PIFE EUf-3 -PROM TITIRANGI. A brief outline of the works iv connection with the City Council was furnished to-day by the Mayor. -Mr. -I. H. i.unson. in the course of an interview with a representative of the "Auckland Star." The Council's works policy is being fully maintained. Mood progress is being made with the concreting of the roads in furtherance of the programme decided upon which lasts until April. 11)2.".. Work is at present in progress in I'atteson Street. Freeman's Bay. and from there will be continued in 'Albert Street, which is una-.- one of the chief remaining city thoroughfares to be concreted. This latter work should be finished towards tbe end of the present year. The com-reting of t he Council* portion of Ml. Eden Uo::d has been completed ou the south side, and avork on the northern side will be started almost immediately right to Shaddock Street. the city boundary. This will mean that all the chief roads to the boundary of the city, will then be concrete thoroughfares. In regard to the ordinary streets of the city there is still a large amount of work to be undertaken which will be a matter of time. It must be remembered that tlie total mileage of streets in Auckland is greater than that of Sydney, and it is hardly necessary to point out that the revenue here is smaller than that of the larger city. In connection with the city tramways the Mayor said work on the track was progressing satisfactorily and will continue for some time. When this is done the Edendale extension of the trams will be undertaken in accordance with the programme of the last authority. Track work is being bronghl up t" date on the tramway lines of the city as fast as possible, but still there i> a lot of it to bo overtaken. The Council has under consideration tlie const ruction of a new- pipe line from Titiraiigi reservoir to Ivhylicr Pass. When thnr has been laid, ii will increase tbe available supply of waier [ delivered to the city, by IOU per cent. (Quotations for pipes will be submitted at the meeting of the Council next week. In view of the shortage of avater for other Than domestic purposes this I summer, the laying of a second pipe I line is a matter of urgency, therefore I have no doubt the work will be authorised, and there will be ample I water delivered for all the requirements :of lhe people next summer. iiielildjuj garden hoses.
