WtANTTKAU CRUISING CLUB. OPENING DAY. 1 The Basin Reserve. Onehunga, presented a very animated scene on Saturday afternoon, it being the first anniversary and opening day of the above club. The patron. Mr. Jordan. M.P., performed the opening ceremony. The president, Mr. E. Morton, secretary. Mr. K. Inglis, and committee, worked energetically, and the carnival was managed very capably. The Onehunga Municipal aßnd rendered on excellent programme. The various events were run off well up to time. The first event was the yacht race, over a triangular course. The wind was a nice railing breeze from the east, giving a run down the harbour. The start was a good one. Gannet being first away, with Kathleen. Linnet, filady, Elsie. Swift. Taby. I Elsinore nnd Hetty in that order. All set spinnakers smartly for the run to the seventh buoy. Gannet getting hers up first. Rounding the seventh buoy the position was Gannet. Elsie, Glday and Kathleen, with the others well up. On the slog across to the buoy off the Bluff the Elsie and Glady passed the Gannet. Ths position was maintained to the finish, the Elsie having increased her lead. The corrected times place Glady 1. Gannet 2. Elsie 3. The launch race brought out six competitors. Boats hat! to be steered by lady j members. The finishing times place Sterling 1, Maui 2. Elma 3. The flat-bottomed dinghy championship was the next event, and was rowed over a triangular course. Twelve competitors lined up at the start, and on the word "go" all got away together. H. Evans nuicklv took command, and this he maintained to ihe finish. The result was :—H. Evans 1. W. Evans 2. W.
