COUNCIL MUST CHOOSE.

MAYOR OR ENGINEER. .', ; (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) BLENHEIM, this day. A hint of sensational developments in municipal matters was contained in a brief discussion at the Borough Council meeting last evening on the subject of the resignation of the borough engineer. Mr. H. M. W. Richardson. At the conclusion of the meeting Councillor W. T. Churchwarden said he desired to move: "(1) That Mr- Richardson be requested to withdraw his resignation of the office of borough engineer uj_n .completion ot the waterworks and Waterlea footbridge- (2) that -Mr. Richardson continue to act as borough engineer m conformity with duties to be definitely set out." . ~ _ Mr Richardson's resignation was due to'a quarrel with the Mayor (Mr. E. S. Parker). The engineer alleged that the Mayor insulted him, and therefore resigned. The Mayor objected to the matter being taken without notice of motion. ' because there was more behind it than councillors were aware of. He went on to state that it appeared as if the council would have to choose between the Mayor and the engineer. Mr. Churchward then gave formal notice of motion.
