Mr.- Anderson Loed, of Chicago, is at tlie Grand Hotel. Dr. R. K. I?. Crawford returned to Auckland by the Tofua this morning. Mr. Louis Cohen, of Wanganui, arrived in Auckland this morning, and is staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. W. H. Brabant, Controller of Customs at Suva, is visiting New Zealand on vacation. Messrs. D. F. and T. F. Linnell, of Kaiwaka, are at present on a visit to this city. Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Caygill, accompanied by Miss Caygill, of Christchureh, are staying at Stonehurst. Captain Willeoeks, harbourmaster at Apia, Samoa, is in Auckland on a holiday. Sir John and Lady Randies, of England, returned to Auckland by the Tofua to-day after a trip to the Islands. Mr. James MacKenzie, 1.5.0., of Wellington, is on a short holiday visit to Auckland. Mr. and" Mrs. A. D. Johnstonc arrived from the Islands by the Tofua this morning. They are staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. W. Morton (Wellington) and Mr. A. Gardener (Taihape) arrived in Auckland this mon.ing, and are staying at the Central Hotel. The Hon. G. C. Kearley, eldest son of Lord Davenport, who is at present staying at Government House, will leave for Rotorua to-morrow. Mr. A. M. O. Farquhar, Fiji, manager for the Colonial Sugar Company, was a passenger by the Tofua, which, arrived at Auckland to-day. Mr. C. K. Holt, formerly of Oainaru, is returning to that city ass chief postmaster in succession to Mr. W. Fisher, who u»s been transferred to Gisborne. Mr. E. J. W. Werry, 8.A., an old Christchureh High School boy, has been appointed assistant master at the Palmerston North Boys' High School, and will commence his duties early in February. Mr. A. Jolly, general manager of the National' Bank of New Zealand, who has been on seven weeks' -holiday visit to Australia, returned to Wellington ou Monday. Air and Mrs. Frederick Boden, of Sydncv, Mr. and Mrs. F. Cook, of Gisborne," and Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Adams, of Thames, are visitors staying at Stonchurs , Mr \. McCarthy, Crown Solicitor of Samoa, is on a holiday visit to Hawera, where he is staying with hie brother-in-law, Mr. C Suisted. Mr. McCarthy was formerly deputy-registrar at the Supreme Court, Auckland. The Hon. J. McOwan, British Consul at Tonga, is visiting Now Zealancl on a few months' holiday, with Sirs. McOwan A native of Victoria, Australia. Mr. McOwan was formerly a District Commissioner and Polite Magistrate at Suva. Mr. Spencer C'raekenthorpe, the Australian i-heas champion, is taking part in tlio championship meeting at Wellington. Ho wart last in New Zealand some 27 years ago for the chess championship ut Chrwtoliurch. Since that time Mr. Craekanthorpe has represented Xew South Wales in many fixtures, including the British chess championship.
