MOTHER SEVERELY INJURED. GIG GOES OVER A BANK. (By Telegraph/—Special -to "Star.") - : " : ■'..'• TATHAPE, this day. The police were advised last night that an accident attended with loss of life had occurred on Turakina Valley Road. Mr. Richard Hammond was driving his wife and two children in a gig and at a bend in the road at the top of a steep bank a mob of sheep were encountered. The Eorse became frantic and Mr. Hammond got out of the vehicle to hold its head. The animal, however, got completely out of control, and plunged over the bank falling into the river below*. Mr. Hammond managed to get one child out of the gig before it toppled over, but Mrs. Hammond and a child aocd 15 months wont over with the horse and gig. The child was so eeverely injured that it died a few minutes later Mrs. Hammond was seriously hurt, but the full extent of her injuries are not known at the present. The horse was killed outright, m the fall over the bank and the gig was smashed.
