A SERIOUS LOSS.

DAIRY FACTORY BURNED,

AT EAST TAMAKI.

; Early on Monday evening the Ea«t i Tamaki Co-operative Dairy Company's ; factory and plant was destroyed by fire. The loss of the factory "will be seriously felt by the farmer's of tho district, most of whom were suppliers to the company. About six o'clock the outbreak was first observed by a boy, who was playing nearby, and promptly gave the alarm. Despite all efforts* to save the office files and furnishings, the flames had secured a firm hold, and the wooden building was soon completely enveloped. It is understood that everything was in order at 4.15 when the boiler cleaner left the factory. He opines that the fire started in the boxroom, situated in the middle of the building.

Temporary arrangements have been made with the East. Tamaki cheese factory, which is nearby, to take the milk, but there is some doubt as to whether this factory will be able to cope with the supply . I The Dairy Company's factory was only erected three years ago, and was one of the most up-to-date in the Auckland province. Considerable additions were effected only 12 months ago. and a new refrigerating plant installed. At present it is impossible to ascertain the exact amount of the insurances. i but it is understood that the building was covered for £3500. The company intends to proceed immediately with the erection of a new factory.
