THE FLOWER GARDEN. .; .' Finish planting Dahlias. ,- • Keep Chrysanthemums tied up. Spray for aphis and rust. Pinch ! - out the tips to cause the plants to break. ' \ ■■' Cosmos, Sunflowers, French and African Marigold, Salvias, can be -< planted. Sow seeds of Hollyhocks, Aquilcgias, Canterbury Bells, Myosotis , - L for next season. J ; ' Keep spent blooms closely cut to prevent seed forming. . j Procure some fresh seed of Gerbera Jamesoni and sow it at once. ' Procure all the mulching materia! you can and use it. it is much better than frequent waterings, both for the soil and the plants. Clip hedges and keep the garden generally tidy. THE VEGETABLE GARDEN. Keep the hoe at work amongst growing crops. ' Use all the mulching material you can rake up. It pays to mulch vegetab'es. Water and feed Runner Beans. Keep the Beans closely picked and pinch off the tips as they reach the top of the s'.icko. '■ Attend to tying, spraying and removing the surplus shoots of : ' Tomatoes. • 4 Dig Potatoes where the tops have turned yellow or gone off with 'f , ' blight. ; ' Make a planting of Leeks, Brussels Sprouts, Broccoli, and other ;.-| ! winter crops as soon as the weather is favourable. , I Pumpkins, Marrows and Melons need to be stopped. Pinch out the growing point to cause laterals to form. ; ' Prepare Celery trenches. Keep the young seedlings growing. Shad? -•' slightly during very hot weather. ■-'■ Peas shou'd be picked as fast as they mature. The hot dry weather % is causing them to mature rather too quickly. Close picking ' helps to prolong the crop. I ' ■< Sow Dwarf Beans for succession. : j Sow Haricot Beans to harvest for winter use. if Cuttings made of the side growths of Tomatoes will root readily .J now and will produce an autumn crop.
